Gulab jamun is a simple and easy recipe. First, we will make the dough and then make the syrup. Divide the dough into sixteen equal parts.
Deep fry them and then immerse them in sugar syrup. Gulab jamun will be ready to serve. First, I will make the dough.
Take a bowl and add Milk powder, All-purpose flour, Cardamom powder, and baking soda. Mix it well. Also, add the cream and mix it well. It will become very soft and sticky dough.
You will observe that the dough has become very sticky and soft dough. Cover this and let it settle for about 10 minutes. Now we are ready to make the Gulab Jamuns.
After about ten minutes we will knead the dough. You will observe that the dough has become much firm than earlier. Knead it again for a few seconds.
Now we are going to divide it into sixteen equal parts. Now we are going to roll them into a ball. It is going to be about double the size after you fry them.
Make sure we have rolled them very smoothly.
Preparation of syrup for Gulab Jamun
Now we will prepare the syrup. Bring the sugar and water to boil. Keep stirring it. Put the heat on medium-high. And as soon as the sugar is dissolved, we should turn off the heat.
You will observe that the syrup has come to boil and sugar is all dissolved. Turn off the gas now. Our sugar syrup is ready.
Frying of Gulab Jamun
Keep them on low medium. We are ready to fry the gulab jamun. The level of oil in the frying pan should be near to one inch. So first, we will test the oil if it is ready.
We will put a little piece of dough, and you will see that oil is sizzling, and the dough should come up slowly.
If the oil is too hot, it will get cooked very fast, and it will not be cooked enough from inside. Please don’t overcrowd because they are going to puff up to about double in size.
We will fry them in two batches and keep rolling them. That way, they will get fried evenly from all sides. Gulab jamun will take about 6 minutes to fry.
But keep rolling so all the gulab jamuns have the same colour all around, and they should brown. Now Gulab jamuns are ready and they have a very nice brown colour. Take them out.
Final preparation of Gulab Jamun
They have to cool off a little bit before you put them in the syrup. Otherwise, they lose their shape. Gulab jamuns are ready to be put in the syrup.
The syrup should be hot but not boiling. Don’t put the gulab jamuns straight in the syrup from the frying pan. Give about 5 minutes before you do that.
Otherwise, they will lose their shape. Now we will add the gulab jamun. Mix them well.
